South Korea and Hong Kong agreed Wednesday to promote bilateral cooperation in their creative industries, Seoul's culture ministry said.

Under the agreement, the two sides will push for various cooperative projects in their cultural and creative industries such as advertising, architecture, design, digital entertainment, movies, music, television, book printing and publishing.

It also calls for building a cooperative system to facilitate exchanges of information, human resources, showcases, education, training, and to push for specific projects, according to the ministry.

In addition, the two sides agreed to support government agencies, business organizations, private firms and non-governmental organizations participating in international events related to creative industries, the ministry said.

The agreement was signed by South Korea's Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Jong-deok and Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Gregory So at a national museum in Seoul.

"The South Korean government is pushing for its creative economy initiative as a new paradigm for sustainable economic growth, and creative industries, in particular, are the main force for a creative economy and economic innovation, both connected to job creation," Kim said in a statement.

"With the signing of the MOU as an occasion, South Korea and Hong Kong will continue to make opportunities to grow together through exchanges of policies and manpower, while trying to develop cooperative projects in the field of cultural and creative industries," he said. (Yonhap)
