The 36th Energy Saving Promotion Contest on Wednesday recognized the efforts of more than 100 individuals and companies to help conserve energy.

The contest, held every November to celebrate “Energy Saving Month,” encourages those who contributed to saving energy for a year. It was jointly hosted and organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Energy Management Corp.

The contest emphasizes that efforts to conserve energy and improve its efficiency are important for not only overcoming a potential crisis resulting from global climate change, but also for providing the keys for cultivating new growth engines.

“Saving energy and improving its efficiency can be a driving force for boosting our economy,” said Trade Minister Yoon Sang-jik at the award ceremony held at the Federation of Korean Industries building.

“We should get rid of unnecessary regulations to not only expand investment in technology development but also foster new energy businesses by exchanging information with international experts.”
