South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. are anticipated to have a combined market share of more than 10 percent in the Chinese TV market for the first time this year, data showed Thursday.

The outlook came as Samsung and LG grabbed more than 10 percent in combined market share over the past three quarters.

Samsung and LG had market shares of 9.4 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively, in the third quarter, with their combined market share reaching 13 percent, according to data by market researcher DisplaySearch.

The two firms also held a combined share of 11.3 percent and 14.2 percent in the first and second quarters.

If their share is maintained above 10 percent in the fourth quarter, it will mark the first time for South Korean players to boast a two-digit market presence on an annual basis. They posted a combined share of 8.8 percent and 9.5 percent in 2012 and 2013.

Samsung and LG have been rolling out high-end products in China to beef up their market share, where native firms dominate on the back of their price competitiveness, industry watchers said.

Chinese companies, however, still dominated their home turf in the third quarter, with HiSense Electric Co., Skyworth Group Co., TCL Corp., and Changhong Electronic Co., posting market shares of

16.1 percent, 14.4 percent, 12.4 percent, and 11.8 percent, respectively. (Yonhap)
