Fresh off a successful first season in Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, South Korean closer Oh Seung-hwan said Monday he will try to be even better in 2015.
Oh arrived home Monday after finishing the season with the Hanshin Tigers. The Tigers lost to the SoftBank Hawks in the championship Japan Series last week.
During the regular season, Oh, who’d previously pitched for the Samsung Lions in the Korea Baseball Organization, went 2-4 with 39 saves and a 1.76 ERA. He led the Central League in saves.
He is the first ex-KBO pitcher to lead a Japanese league in a major statistical category.
“I am pleased that I played the whole season without an injury,” Oh told reporters upon landing at Gimpo International Airport, western Seoul. “But I am not particularly proud of what I did. Those six blown saves were hugely disappointing. I think I was able to put up good numbers because I had good teammates.”
Oh enjoyed early postseason success, but in the Japan Series, he gave up a walk-off home run in Game 4 against the Hawks. (Yonhap)
