Gangwon expands ties with China’s Fujian province

Korea’s Gangwon Province and China’s Fujian province signed a letter of intent to form sister relations and agreed to cooperate in launching chartered flights between the two regions, the Gangwon Province government announced Monday.

The two provincial governments conducted talks during the “Gangwon Province Day” event held in San Fang Qi Xiang Historic Block in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province.

Along with the letter of intent, signed by Gangwon Province Gov. Choi Moon-soon and deputy chief of Fujian province Zheng Xiaosong, it was agreed that the Chinese province will send a large delegation for the “Fujian Province Day” in Gangwon Province next year.

In the talks with Xiamen Air vice president Huang Guohui, the Korean delegation agreed to cooperate in launching chartered flights from the Chinese airline’s hub airports to Korea’s YangYang Airport.

Exchange in other areas is also to be expanded, with Kangwon National University and Fuzhou University agreeing to work together to form a sister relationship of their own. In addition, Fujian province officials informed the Korean side that efforts would be made to introduce Korean language departments at local universities.
