Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea's largest full-service carrier, said Tuesday that it has started offering daily code-shared flights with LAN Peru S.A., that can greatly enhance travelers' convenience.

The move allows people who want to fly from Incheon International Airport (IIA) to Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport via Los Angeles, to book the flight with Korean Air.

The arrangement allows a person to receive mileage benefits with Korean Air even if he or she flies on a LAN Peru jet from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Lima.

In the past anyone traveling from IIA to the Peruvian capital had to book separate flights with the two carriers.

"The latest cooperation agreement can greatly enhance convenience and make it easier for travelers to take advantage of Korean Air's services and benefits," the airline said. It said the code sharing is good for all sides since the same code sharing benefits apply to LAN Peru, the South American country's largest carrier.

Flights eligible for the code sharing leave IIA every day at 8 p.m., arrive at LAX at 3:10 p.m. and after transferring to a new jet arrive at Lima at 10:55 a.m. Korean Air operates its latest A380 superjumbos and B777s for its flights to LAX.

The opposite route leaves Peru at 12:40 p.m. for Los Angeles and Incheon.

The airline, the 12th-largest passenger carrier in the world, said it has similar arrangements with Air France, KLM and 27 other airlines at present. (Yonhap)
