Some 3,000 delegates from the air cargo industry flocked to Seoul on Tuesday to attend a forum on international aviation logistics hosted by Incheon International Airport Corp.

The 27th International Air Cargo Forum & Exposition, organized by the International Air Cargo Association starts Tuesday and will continue through Thursday at Coex Exhibition Center.

“The event will offer a great chance for freight logistics officials to build up their networks with global industry leaders and discover new business opportunities,” said Choi Hong-yeol, acting CEO of IIAC.

Under the theme of “Breaking barriers, creating opportunities,” the participants from around the globe will address current challenges and pending issues in the air cargo industry, including developments in air freight security regulation, e-trade and the emerging air freight industry in Asia.

TIACA is a nonprofit association with 600 member companies worldwide, representing all the major segments of the air logistics industry, such as combination and all-cargo airlines, forwarders, airports, ground handlers, customs brokers and logistics firms.

This is the first time Korea plays host to the biennial international event ― one of the biggest aviation logistics forums ― launched in 1960.

IIAC, as a trustee member of the International Air Cargo Association, is recognized as a leading gateway in Northeast Asia. It is the world’s second-busiest airport in terms of international freight volume as of the first half of the year, according to IIAC.

The conference will feature keynote speeches from TIACA chairman Oliver Evans and Korean Transport Minister Suh Seoung-hwan.

“We are looking forward to a lively and informative debate at the industry’s leading networking event,” said Evans.

The three-day conference will also present a series of workshops, panel discussions, presentations from leading industry experts on global and regional air freight supply chain issues, ranging from e-freight and advance data filing, to mail and security.

The panel discussion will focus on regional issues regarding trade opportunities in South Korea as well as the cargo capability of Incheon International Airport.

Over 200 air cargo-related companies from 39 countries will participate in the exhibition, including Changi Airport in Singapore, Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and Dubai-based carrier Emirates.
