알제리 여객기 실종, “승객 110명 어디로?”

서아프리카 상공을 비행 중이던 여객기가 24일(현지시간) 갑자기 실종됐다.

실종된 이 비행기에는 대다수가 알제리 국적인 승객 110명과 승무원 6명이 탑승해 있었다고 AP와 dpa 통신 등 외신이 전했다.

알제리 당국은 이 여객기 실종 사건을 긴급 사태로 간주하고 공군 등을 투입해 사고 현장을 수색하고 있다.

알제리항공은 이날 부르키나파소 와가두구에서 알제리로 향하던 이 회사 소속 항공기 AH5017편과 연락이 두절됐다고 밝혔다.

알제리항공 측은 “여객기가 이륙한 지 50분 뒤 항행지원서비스와 연락이 끊겼다”고 현지 통신사 APS에 말했다.

이 비행기는 레이더에서도 사라졌다.

1주일에 4차례 알제리-부르키나파소 구간을 운항하는 이 비행기는 애초 4시간을비행해 알제리 수도 알제에 도착할 예정이었다.

알제리와 부르키나파소 사이에는 치안이 불안하고 내전을 겪은 말리가 자리를 잡고 있다.

연락 두절 당시 이 비행기의 구체적인 사고 경위에 대해서는 즉각 확인되지 않고 있다.

Air Algerie flight vanishes over Mali

An Air Algerie flight carrying 116 people from Burkina Faso to Algeria's capital disappeared from radar early Thursday over northern Mali after heavy rains were reported, according to the plane's owner and government officials in France and Burkina Faso, according to AP.

Air navigation services lost track of the MD-83 about 50 minutes after takeoff from Ougadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, at 0155 GMT (9:55 p.m. EDT Wednesday), the official Algerian news agency APS said.

Burkina Faso's transport minister said 50 French nationals were among those onboard, along with 24 Burkina Faso nationals, six Lebanese, five Canadians, four Algerians, two Luxemburg nationals, one Swiss, one Nigerian, one Cameroonian and one Malian.

AP reported that French Transport Minister Frederic Cuvillier said the plane vanished over northern Mali. He spoke Thursday from a crisis center set up in the French Foreign Ministry. (From news report)
