ASEAN-Korea Center starts lecture series

This year’s ASEAN-Korea Center Southeast Asian Lecture Series starts at ASEAN Hall of the ASEAN-Korea Center on the 8th floor of the Korea Press Center in downtown Seoul June 26.

Co-organized with the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies at Busan University of Foreign Studies, the subject on the first week of the five-week program is titled, “The ASEAN Community and Acculturation in Southeast Asia” and will be delivered in Korean by professor professor Park Sa-myung.

The lectures are free and open to the public every Thursday at 7 p.m. Dubbed “living culture in Southeast Asia,” this year’s iteration marks the center’s 11th series.

Other topics in the series include: “Cambodia’s Religion and Life: Ahimsa and Khmer Rouge” by professor Jeong Yeon-sik of Changwon National University on July 3; “Mosque Architecture and Modern Islam in Southeast Asia” by professor Ku Ha-won of Hankook University of Foreign Studies on July 10; and “Daily Life and Culture of Vietnam” by professor Youn Dae-yeong of Sogang University on July 17.

The series ends with a lecture titled, “Daily life and Craft Arts in Southeast Asia,” by professor Kim In-gyu of Busan University of Foreign Studies on July 24.

Anyone interested in Southeast Asia may attend the lectures through registering via the ASEAN-Korea Center website (www.aseankorea.org) for free of charge.

Lectures are Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the ASEAN Hall at the ASEAN-Korea Center located on the 8th floor of the Seoul Press Center in downtown Seoul.
