Funeral services for three Danwon High School students lost in the sinking of the Sewol ferry last month were held Saturday, as the official death toll stands at 274, with 30 still missing.

The service for the students took place at two hospitals in Ansan, located 42 kilometers southwest of Seoul.

Representatives of families who lost their loved ones said that over 462,000 people have visited various memorial altars since April 23. They added that 99,000 condolence messages have been received.

The 6,825-ton ferry carrying 476 passengers capsized and sank in southwestern waters off Jindo island on April 16. A total of 172 people were rescued by the Coast Guard and fishing boats near the scene.

Of those on the boat, 339 were from Danwon High School, on a school excursion to Jeju Island. Of these, 232 students and seven teachers lost their lives, while 18 students and five teachers remain missing. (Yonhap)
