스코틀랜드의 상징이라고도 할 수 있는 ‘네스호의 전설’ 네시가 죽었을지 모른다는 기사들이 영국에서 나오고 있다.
네시 전문 관찰사 개리 캠밸은 18개월 동안 아무도 네시를 보았다고 나서지 않았으며 최근에 네시를 목격했다며 제시한 사진 3점 모두 다른 장소에서 찍힌 사진으로 판명됐다고 말했다고 지역언론들이 보도했다.
캠밸은 인터뷰에서 “1925년 이후부터 확실한 네시의 행방에 대한 보고는 없었다”며 근 90년 동안 잠잠하던 네시의 행방을 설명했다. 또한, “그녀 (네시)가 어디로 갔는지 행방불명이 된 것은 매우 슬픈일”이라고 덧붙이며 스코틀랜드 인버네스의 명물 네시의 실종에 대해 유감을 표했다.
몇몇 다른 주장들도 나오고 있다. 네시가 죽은 것이 아니라 호주로 떠난 것이라고 한다. 데일리메일은 이들은 작년 11월에 퀸즐랜드주 작은 해안도시 타운즈빌의 한 섬에서 찍힌 네시로 추정되는 사진을 보고 이처럼 주장하고 있다고 말했다. 마그네틱섬의 주민 데이비드 헤론은 자신의 카메라는 네시를 찍은 사진으로 넘쳐난다고 전했다고 한다.
현재 네시는 예티, 빅풋 등과 함께 ‘세계 4대 전설의 동물’이라고 전해져 내려오고 있다.

As for the claims that Nessie has been on holiday in Australia, a man living in Magnetic Island of Queensland, Australia said that his camera had captured a vast number of pictures of a creature resembling the Loch Ness monster.
The supposed monster has been an international phenomenon since an image of large dinosaur-like creature swimming in the lake of Inverness was reported.
