10 most powerful Harvard graduates in the world

Business Insider reported a list of the most powerful graduates from Harvard who are currently influencing not only the U.S., but the world.

Harvard was recently named the university with the best reputation in the world, and alumni of both the undergraduate and graduate programs are holding influential positions.

1. Jill Abramson, executive editor of the New York Times

Abramson graduated magna cum laude in 1976 with a B.A. in history. She is the first woman to hold the executive editor position of NYT in its 160-year history.

2. Ban Ki-moon, secretary-general of the U.N.

Ban earned an M.A. in public administration in 1985. He is serving his second term as the secretary-general of the U.N. since his first term from 2007. Prior to his appointment, he was South Korea‘s minister of foreign affairs and trade.

3. Ben Bernanke, former chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve

Bernanke received a B.A. and later an M.A. in economics in 1975. His efforts in solving the economic collapse made him a headline-star.

4. Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs

Blankfein earned his B.A. in 1975 and his J.D. in 1978. He has been a CEO of Goldman Sachs, a financial superpower with $938 billion in assets, since 2006.

5. Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York City

Bloomberg received his MBA in 1966 and served NYC for three consecutive terms. He was recently appointed by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as his special envoy for cities and climate change.

6. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase

Dimon graduated with an MBA in 1982. He is listed as 22nd on Forbes Magazine’s List of The World‘s Most Powerful People and runs one of the largest banks in the world.

7. Barack Obama, president of the United States

Obama graduated with a J.D. magna cum laude in 1991 and has been selected as second on Forbes Most Powerful List.

8. Michelle Obama, first lady of the United States

Michelle earned her J.D. in 1988 and is spearheading her “Let’s Move!” campaign that urges children in the U.S. to fight obesity. Obamas are known to have met at Harvard.

9. Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook

Sandberg graduated with a B.A. summa cum laude in economics in 1991. Previously, she was vice president of Global Sales and Operations at Google and served as chief of staff for the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. She is also the author of the bestseller “Lean In.”

10. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, president of Liberia

Johnson earned a M.A. in public administration in 1971 and became the president of Liberia in 2006. She is the world’s first black female leader the first elected female head of state in Africa.
