Cases against three lawmakers were dropped or returned to lower courts on Thursday, enabling the representatives to maintain their parliamentary seats.

Of the three, Rep. Sim Hag-bong of the ruling Saenuri Party was acquitted of election law violations by the Daegu High Court, overturning the earlier ruling that fined Sim 3 million won ($2,800) for allegedly violating the Public Official Election Act.

In two separate rulings, the Supreme Court returned cases concerning ruling party’s Rep. Ahn Duk-soo and Rep. Choi Won-sick of the main opposition Democratic Party to the Seoul High Court.

The two legislators will maintain their seats pending the retrials at the Seoul High Court and the Supreme Court’s subsequent final decision.

Choi was convicted of promising favors to a DP official, while Ahn’s seat came in jeopardy over one of his campaign aides’ influence peddling.

Under related regulations, a confirmed prison term or a fine of more than 3 million won handed down to a campaign finance manager results in the lawmaker’s loss of seat.
