Authentic ‘osechi’ cuisine at The Ritz-Carlton, Seoul

Hanazono, the Japanese restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Seoul, will be serving traditional osechi New Year cuisine as part of its special lunch and dinner menu from Jan. 1 to 7. The set meals will include miniature, single-serving osechi, in which each dish has a special meaning of its own, as well as sashimi, jorim (a boiled-down soy sauce dish), stew, glutinous rice and dessert. The osechi consist of prawns cooked in a special sauce, burdock, lotus root, kelp rolls, chestnut and sweet potato, egg, herring roe, and daikon and carrot pickled in vinegar. The lunch and dinner sets are both priced at 120,000 won per person, including tax and service charge. Hanazono’s osechi menu is created by head chef Pyo Gil-taek, a master of Japanese cuisine with 26 years of experience. For more information, call (02) 3451-8276.

 

Top chocolate brands at The Westin Chosun Seoul

Premium chocolate products made by the world’s top chocolate makers are available at the hotel’s Italian restaurant Vecchia e Nuovo. The hotel is introducing about 90 different chocolate products ranging from chocolate bars, pralines and chocolate spread to unusual combinations of chocolate and popcorn, bacon and potato chips. Holiday gift sets of chocolates and Venuve Cliquot champagne are also available. The brands featured in the shop are from bean-to-bar chocolate manufacturers including the chocolate maker Benoit Nihant, from Belgium; Amedei, from Italy; Pralus, from France; and Chuao Chocolatier, from the U.S. The shop, opened on Dec. 24, is offering mugs to customers who spend more than 30,000 won until Jan. 12. English cooking class at Sheraton Seoul D Cube City Hotel

The hotel is holding an English cooking class for children between the ages of 5 and 10 in the second week of January. The “Disney Junior English Cooking Class” will be conducted in English by Chef Paul Dodd for children from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. from Jan. 7 to 9 at the hotel. In the class, children will make cookies by following the demonstrations of the chef. They will mix dough and create various shapes using Disney character-shaped cookie cutters. At the end of the class, children will be given a certificate of completion along with a small gift. Each session is limited to 20 children. Chinese hot pot at Millennium Seoul Hilton

Millennium Seoul Hilton’s Chinese restaurant, Taipan, will hold a Chinese Hot Pot promotion throughout the month of January. Set A (145,000 won) will include signature appetizers, double-boiled abalone with ginseng and dried scallops in superior broth, sauteed sea cucumber and minced beef in Sichuan-style sauce, fried lobster in chili Sauce, and sauteed Hanwoo and asparagus in garlic butter. Set B (120,000 won) will include braised sea cucumber and scallops, double-boiled abalone with ginseng and dried scallops in superior broth, sauteed prawns and minced beef in Sichuan-style sauce, and sauteed Hanwoo and asparagus in garlic butter.
