오바마케어 지지율 역대 최저치…여성들 ‘변심’ 탓

‘오바마케어’로 불리는 미국의 새 건강보험제도에 대한 여론이 시행일을 앞두고 한 달 전보다 5% 포인트 낮은 35%로 역대 최저치를 기록했다.

키팅 홀런드 CNN 여론조사 디렉터는 “이는 오바마케어 성공을 위해 미국 엄마들에게 손을 내미는 오바마 행정부에 나쁜 소식”이라고 말하며 여성의 변심이 새 보험정책 추진에 악영향을 미칠 것이라고 전망했다.

CNN이 지난 16~19일 성인 1천35명을 대상으로 ORC인터내셔널서베이와 함께 실시한 여론조사(전화면접 방식, 오차범위 ±3%P) 결과 오바마케어에 반대 의견은 62%로 2010년 3월 첫 조사 이후 최저치이다.

CNN은 지지율의 추락에는 여성의 반대율이 한 달 사이에 6% 포인트나 상승하는 등 여성들 사이에 거부감이 커진 영향이 크다고 전했다.

오바마케어에 대한 일반적인 인식 또한 나빠진 것으로 나타났다. 새로운 제도가 개인 부담 보험료를 인상시킬 것이라는 견해가 63%를 차지했고 ‘혜택이 줄어들 것’이란 부정적 전망도 석 달 전 40%에서 42%로 증가했다.

Obamacare support hits new low after losing female advocates

The support for the new insurance system dubbed “Obamacare” hit a record low, with dwindling female backing despite the nearing enforcement date, CNN reported Monday.

“That’s bad news for an administration that is reaching out to moms across the country in an effort to make Obamacare a success,” said the CNN polling director Keating Holland.

According to a nationwide poll conducted for CNN by ORC International from Dec. 16 to 19, results showed that for the first time since 2010, an overwhelming 62 percent were against Obamacare. CNN reported that the rise in opposition is in part due to a dramatic rise of 6 percent in opposition among women, as the public feels the change will not bring full coverage to their health.

Data show Obamacare is losing support from the general public after his healthcare.gov launched in October turned out to be flawed, driving millions of Americans out of their existing insurance plans. Among the 1,035 people surveyed, 63 percent said the new plan would add to their health insurance costs and 42 percent said it would lead to reduced benefits.
