Samsung SDI to supply energy storage systems to Indian firm

Samsung SDI said Thursday it had struck an exclusive deal to supply energy storage systems and related parts to a major Indian energy management equipment manufacturer.
Under the deal, the Korean energy solution firm will supply 110 MWh energy storage systems to ACME for the next two years.
The Indian firm, which specializes in energy management products for photovoltaic power generators and telecommunications equipment, is one of the largest companies in the Indian market.
Samsung SDI’s lithium-ion batteries for base stations will replace the lead-acid batteries currently used by the Indian firm, according to an official from Samsung SDI.
“The deal has laid the foundation for Samsung SDI to make a foray into the Indian market,” said Park Sang-jin, CEO of the Korean firm, adding that he would make relentless efforts to maintain his company’s edge in the global ESS market.
The latest deal came after others made earlier this year with U.S. energy storage firm Xtreme Power, and U.K. electric power system provider S&C Electric Co.
