Cannes, Berlinale winners among Cinecube fest lineup

Seven Cannes and Berlinale winners have been included in the lineup of the upcoming 2013 Cinecube Premiere Festival, the event’s organizers announced this week.

The festival, hosted by Cinecube, one of the best known art house theaters in Seoul, offers moviegoers a chance to enjoy the Korean premiere of critically acclaimed works scheduled to be released in local theaters in December or early next year.

A total of 15 films will be screened throughout the festival. Five Cannes winners will be screened: French romantic drama “Blue is the Warmest Color,” winner of the Palme d’Or; American comedy drama “Inside Llewyn Davis,” winner of the Grand Prix; Japanese drama “Like Father, Like Son,” which won the Jury Prize; French drama “The Past,” winner of Best Actress; and Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke’s “A Touch of Sin,” which won Best Screenplay.

Also to be screened are two Berlinale winners: Romanian drama “Child’s Pose,” which won the Golden Bear, as well as Chilean-Spanish film “Gloria,” which won the Silver Bear for Best Actress.

Other notable films include French drama “Farewell, My Queen,” a fictional account of Marie Antoinette, and Terrence Malick’s 2012 romantic drama “To the Wonder,” which was featured in the competition lineup for the 2012 Venice Film Festival.

The 2013 Cinecube Premiere Festival runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 4. All screenings take place at Cinecube theater in central Seoul. For more information, visit www.icinecube.com.
