Daelim Industrial Co., a South Korean construction firm, said Thursday that it has won a 1.3 trillion won ($1.16 billion) deal to build a thermal power plant in Malaysia.

Under the deal with state-run Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Daelim will complete the construction of the coal-powered plant by October 2017, the company said.

The 1,000-megawatt plant will be built in Manjung, 288 kilometers northwest of Kuala Lumpur, it added.

TNB accounts for about 55 percent of the Southeast Asian country‘s electricity supply.

Last year, Daelim also won a $1.2 billion deal to build a thermal power plant in Vietnam.

Daelim is involved in power plant projects valued at a combined $2 billion in Vietnam and the Philippines. (Yonhap News)
