The award ceremony for the second Seoul National University of Education-Korea Herald English Contest (SKEC) took place at the British ambassador’s residence in Seoul on Wednesday.

A total of 15 students won the top prizes, in categories divided by age and the amount of time entrants spent living overseas. Among the winners are Park Ye-rin for the high-school level, Park Jae-young for the middle-school level and Park Hye-hyoun for the elementary-school level.

Other awards including the second-highest gold prize were conferred to 37 applicants.

The competition was hosted by Herald Corporation and SNUE, and sponsored by the British Embassy. More than 2,200 applicants participated in the contest held in June.

Launched last November, the biannual contest seeks to encourage more interest among students in raising writing skills and developing English education that fits the era of globalization, organizers said.

The next contest is to be held in November.
