City police said Wednesday they have wrapped up an investigation into alleged sexual abuse involving a former South Korean presidential spokesman.
"The Metropolitan Police Department has presented the facts of this matter to the United States Attorney's Office for their determination," Gwendolyn Crump, director of the police office of communications, told Yonhap News Agency.
Yoon Chang-jung, 56, is accused of molesting a Korean-American female intern while he was visiting Washington in early May as a member of President Park Geun-hye's entourage.
Yoon allegedly grabbed the intern's buttocks at a hotel bar near the White House, hours after Park held summit talks with U.S.
President Barack Obama. He has denied the charges, however, claiming he just "touched" her waist.
The intern, in her early 20s, was hired temporarily to help preparations for the South Korean president's visit.
D.C. police initially said they were treating it as a misdemeanor sexual abuse case, leaving open the possibility of changing it into a felony.
It remains uncertain whether prosecutors will issue an arrest warrant for Yoon, currently in South Korea. A felony charge would force Yoon to come to the U.S. for trial. (Yonhap News)
