Korean filmmaker Jung Young-heon won the best director award at the Moscow International Film Festival for his movie “Lebanon Emotion” on Saturday.
The film was among 16 movies that received awards at the 35th edition of the festival, which started in 1959 as the biggest movie festival in Eastern Europe.
“Lebanon Emotion” depicts the complex emotional changes of a man and a woman in both urban and rural settings. Despite its title, the film features no scenes based in Lebanon. The movie won the CGV MovieCollage Prize at the Jeonju International Film Festival held from April to May.
Korean films have won several awards at the film festival in previous years: Director Jang Jun-hwan received the best director award for the 2003 movie “Save the Green Planet”; actress Kang Soo-yeon won the best actress award for the 1989 “Come Come Come Upward”; and actor Lee Deok-hwa won the best actor award for the 1993 movie “I Will Survive.”
This year’s movie festival invited the Korean movie “Azooma,” directed by Lee Ji-seung, and Kim Dong-ho, former director of the Busan International Film Festival, as members of the jury.
