The term “Gold Miss” has long been used to indicate a woman in her late 30s or 40s who is still single and highly committed to her career. But it now could be getting more difficult for men to ape their female counterparts, with employers avoiding single men in their 30s and 40s, according to one human resources worker.

“We prefer someone who can harmonize well with the organization. However these old single men usually lose points in the criteria of responsibility and commitment when applying for jobs,” an anonymous source from a large firm’s human resources team told a local daily.

While Gold Miss is perceived as someone who is ready to commit to the company with no family to take care of, they said, single male workers are considered to have personality defects, bad life habits, or commitment issues.

The disadvantage for the “old mister” applies when starting one’s own business as well. While credibility is considered the most crucial factor when signing contracts and making deals, older single men seem to lack not only “credibility,” but also “stability.”

“There are businessmen in their 40s wearing fake wedding rings when meeting clients to make it seem like they are married,” said one 43-year-old businessman who runs his own interior shop.
