Former Labor Minister Kim Dae-hwan was picked to lead a presidential advisory panel on labor policy, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.

Kim, 64, will replace Choi Jong-tae who has recently offered to step down. The new chairman served as labor and employment minister for the Roh Moo-hyun administration from 2004 and currently teaches economics at Inha University in Incheon.

The Economic and Social Development Commission offers advice on labor and related economic and industry policies and how to improve relations between labor and management.

Meanwhile, the presidential office also named former Labor Minister Lee Yeon-taek as the new chairman of Saemangeum Development Committee.

Succeeding Cho Nam-jo, Kim will oversee a national project to build a special economic zone on reclaimed land in the West Sea.

Lee, 77, was formerly minister of the now-defunct Ministry of Government Administration and headed the 2014 Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee and the Korean Olympic Committee.
