An opposition party lawmaker, who criticized President Park Geun-hye on Twitter for making a speech in English while in the United States, deleted the message after it began stirring up controversy on Thursday.

The Democratic Party’s Jung Chung-rae compared the president’s speech at a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress to Psy, who won stardom worldwide with hits “Gangnam Style” and “Gentleman,” sung in Korean.

“Even though Psy’s English level is higher than Park’s, she delivered a speech in English and Psy sings in Korean. Who are you proud of more?,” he wrote.

Twitter users criticize Jung’s comment by saying that former president Kim Dae-jung also gave a speech in English in front of the U.S. Congress.

Jung deleted his tweet as pressure mounted, but a captured image of the comment is still circulating online.

The server of the lawmaker’s official site also crashed on the same day due to a flood of people trying to connect at the same time.

Park was the sixth Korean president to deliver a speech to a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress. Of them, four -- the first president Rhee Syng-man, Roh Tae-woo, Kim Dae-jung and Park -- delivered their speeches in English. Kim Young-sam and Lee Myung-bak delivered their speeches in Korean and it was interpreted in English.
