Ji Dong-won scored two goals to carry his FC Augsburg to a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, reviving the team’s hopes of keeping its spot in the first-division Bundesliga.

Playing in a vital home match against Frankfurt, the South Korean netted a goal 28 minutes into the game, and another in the second half. It was the third goal of the season for Ji, who has played in the German league since January.

It was the first time the 22-year-old has scored more than one goal in a European professional match. He was denied a hat-trick when a foul was called after he shot.

Sunday’s win bolstered Augsburg to the 16th spot in the standings, just three winning points to a safety.

In Bundesliga, the bottom two teams -- 17th and 18th -- at the end of each season are sent to the second division in the following season. The 16th-place team plays the third-place team from the second division in the relegation playoff for the last first-division spot.
