South Korean pop singer Psy unveiled his new song “Gentleman” on Friday.

The highly anticipated follow-up of his global hit “Gangnam Style” was released at midnight in 119 countries around the world.

Within an hour after the release, Psy’s new single topped the lists of South Korea’s biggest online music charts including Mnet, Melon, Soribada and Bugs.

Co-written by Psy and producer Yoo Keon-hyung, “Gentleman” features self-mocking lyrics with a simple but addictive melody. Yoo and Psy worked together on “Gangnam Style” as well.

“Gentleman” has more English lyrics than in “Gangnam Style,” which may be an attempt to target non-Korean fans. Through the song’s refrain “I’m a mother father gentleman,” the singer apparently pokes fun at profanity in a playful way.

Reactions to the song were mixed, with some hailing it as another sensation and others doubting whether it will live up to the popularity of "Gangnam Style."

The final judgment will seemingly be made when its music video and dance moves are released at Psy’s “Happening” concert, where he is to perform “Gentleman” for the first time on April 13 in Seoul.
