Samsung Electronics on Thursday unveiled the new smartphone Galaxy Mega, which features its largest size 6.3-inch display screen, for the European market.

The world’s top mobile phone maker said the new addition to the Galaxy smartphone lineup would be rolling out in Europe and Russia beginning next month. However, it has yet to determine whether the model will be available in Korea.

According to Samsung officials, the new device, which comes with dual-core mobile processors, combines the portability and convenience of a smartphone with a tablet-like viewing experience.

“The Galaxy Mega is an ideal choice for customers who want to get the most out of one device that brings great quality at an even greater value,” the company said in a statement. “(It) enables an exceptional widescreen view for various applications including Web browsing, video and social networking services.”

The new model is equipped with the “Samsung WatchON” function which enables the phone to transform into a remote control. It also carriers the “Group Play” feature that allows easy content sharing for up to eight devices and “Samsung Link” that transmits photos, videos, notes and music to a television, tablet PC or computer.

“The Galaxy Mega will accomplish more with the rich, interactive experience and increased usability of the widescreen mode,” it said.

The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera as well as a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, and it also has a function called “S Travel” that offers trip information and local guides.

Meanwhile, Samsung also rolled out a smaller 5.8-inch smartphone also labeled “Galaxy Mega 5.8” for people preferring more portability.
