A New York co-op board says a woman concealed her aunt's death for four years so she could keep living in a rent-stabilized apartment.

Diana Hansen-Young, president of the board of the building on Vanderbilt Avenue in Brooklyn, told the New York Post Friday that Brenda Williams claimed to be living in her aunt's apartment before Debbie Vaughn died at age 93 in 2007 -- but was actually living with her boyfriend and only moved in to the apartment after Vaughn's death.

Williams told board members her aunt had become "paranoid" and might have a fatal heart attack if anyone came to see her.

Hansen-Young said the board had been charging Vaughn only $287 a month rent for an apartment that might fetch $2,200 because of her age, long tenancy and low income. She charged Williams took advantage of the board's kindness.

The board learned in 2010 that Vaughn was dead when Hansen-Young accompanied a plumber to the apartment and discovered the room where Vaughn was supposed to be sleeping held only a bare mattress. The board then checked death records.

The lawsuit seeks to evict Williams from the building and demands more than $400,000 in damages. (UPI)

윌리엄스는 아파트 관리위원회에는 이모가 “피해망상증”을 가지고 있으며 누군가 그녀를 찾아온다면 심각한 심장마비에 걸릴 수 있다고 주장했다.

한센 영 아파트 관리위원장은 데비 본의 나이가 많고 오랫동안 한 집에 살았으며 수입이 적기 때문에 2,200달러(약 230만원)에 달하는 집세의 10분의 1인 287달러밖에 받지 않았다. 한센 영은 윌리엄스가 관리위원회의 호의를 남용했다고 고발했다.

관리위원회는 한센 영이 배관공과 함께 브렌다 윌리엄스의 집을 쳐들어간 후에야 데비 본이 죽었다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 데비 본이 잠들어있어야 하는 방에는 메트리스 밖에 없었다. 그 후 위원회는 데비 본의 사망기록을 조사했다.

이번 일로 고소당한 브렌다 윌리엄스는 아파트에서 추방당하고 최대 40만 달러의 피해보상액이 걸린 소송을 당했다. (코리아헤럴드)
