의류업체의 경쟁이 날로 치열해지고 있는 상황에서 여성들이 무엇을 원하는지 콕 집어내는 디자이너야 말로 경쟁력이 있다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 올해 춘계 서울 패션위크에는 현대 여성들이 한번쯤은 혹할 수 있는 볼거리는 물론, 여성들의 탄성을 자아내는 섹시하고 강인한 캐주얼 룩이 강세를 이루었다. 



How and What, 진취적인 현대 여성을 보여주다

이번 시즌도 어김없이 다양한 룩이 2013 춘계 서울 패션위크를 장식했다. 디자이너 박병규는 현대여성에게 딱 걸맞는 컬렉션을 선보였다. 우아하지만 강인한, 섹시하지만 모던함이 공존하는 그의 무대는 성공적인 커리어를 갖고 있는 여성들에게 어필할 수 있는 룩으로 여성의 당당함과 사랑스러움을 동시에 아우르면서 도시적인 매력까지 더한 모습이었다.

이미 해외 바이어들과 많은 여성들에게 사랑을 받고 있는 박병규의 하우앤왓, “How and What” 컬렉션은 여성의 라인을 강조한 가죽 드레스, 현란한 패턴, 반짝이는 소재로 만든 복합적이고 섹시한 느낌의 의상들을 선보여 ‘캣우먼’의 옷장을 그대로 가져다 놓은 듯했다.

그는 머스타드 색 원피스 위에 까만 망사를 덧대어 심플하면서도 포인트 요소를 준, 실제로 입을 수 있는 상당히 멋진 의상들도 선보였다.

컬렉션이 다 끝나고 무대 뒤에서 만난 박병규 디자이너는 “올해 컬렉션은 똑똑하고 진취적인 현대 여성을 보여주려고 노력했다”고 설명했다. 이어 “섹시함은 섹스어필을 하기 위해서가 아니라 여성으로서의 매력을 보여주기 위한 것”이라고 밝혔다.

박병규 디자이너는 이브닝룩이 갖고 있는 요소를 데이타임룩에 응용해 광택이 나는 소재로 만든 트렌치 코트, 가죽 자켓을 비롯해 여러 가지 조끼와 이브닝 드레스를 선보여 이지적인 여성을 표현했다.

그는 액세서리에도 많은 신경을 쓴 것 같았다. 모델 손에 들려있는 뱀피 클러치와 한 면에 메탈릭 소재를 덧댄 클러치 백은 여심을 흔들었고 스파이더맨으로부터 영감을 받은 싸이하이 부츠와 화려하고 볼드한 목걸이는 그가 선보이는 의상에 포인트를 줬다.



스티브 J & 요니P, 개성있는 디자인으로 사랑받다

스타 디자이너의 대표주자인 디자이너 정혁서와 디자이너 배승연은 -- 스티브 J & 요니P (Steve J & Yoni P), 올해 춘계 서울 패션위크에서 반항적인 이미지와 젊음을 상징하는 요소들을 가득 담은 펑크 느낌의 의상을 대방출 했다. 이번 시즌에는 크리스탈 비즈와 메탈릭 프린트가 가미된 니트 스웨터와 맨투맨 티, 치마와 바지 등, 개성 있고 위트 있는 의상이 주를 이루었다.

한편 이날 패션쇼에는 패셔니스타 이효리가 쇼장에 들어서기부터 F/W 컬렉션을 입고 나타나, 춘계 시즌 의상을 살짝 엿볼 수 있었다. 평소 옷을 잘 입기로 유명한 이효리는 이날도 해골 문양 프린트가 돋보이는 크롭티와 매니쉬한 팬츠로 스타일을 완성했다.

이번 시즌 스티브 J & 요니P는 기존에 있는 무늬에 다양한 변주를 꾀해, 단순한 옷에 생명력을 불어넣었다. 부부는 빨간색과 까만색의 배합이 잘 아우러진 체크 무늬에 골드 메탈릭 프린트를 섞어 새로운 패턴을 고안해냈다. 이 색다른 패턴으로 만든 의상에 부부의 통통 튀는 디자인에 더해져 많은 바이어와 관계자들의 눈길을 끌었다.

작년에 인디밴드를 초청해 S/S 2013년 쇼를 성공적으로 마친 부부 디자이너는, 올해 피아니스트와 디제이를 초청해 발랄하고 즐거운 분위기를 자아내는 음악으로 눈도 귀도 즐겁게 해주었다.



Kiok, 건축적인 디자인을 만들어내다

디자이너 강기옥의 kiok 패션쇼는 유명 비트박서 고영빈의 공연을 주축으로 이루어졌다. 모델들은 실제 비트박스에 맞춰 멋진 워킹을 선보였다. 심지어 패션쇼는 비트박스에 이어 무대에 영화의 한 장면을 보여주기도 하면서 독특한 분위기를 자아냈다.

강기옥 디자이너는 뉴욕에 있는 그녀의 스튜디오에서 영감을 받아 올 시즌 ‘작품’을 만들어냈다. 뉴욕에 있는 작업실을 토대로 그녀의 블라우스, 미니드레스와 점퍼는 하얀 벽돌과 나무 가구와 절묘하게 닮아있었다. 그녀의 점퍼에는 벽돌 문양과 데님소재가 더해져 하나의 아트워크를 연상케 했다. 가구를 단순화 시킨 그녀의 디자인은 패션쇼가 끝날 즈음 핑크색과 하얀색이 더해진 미니 원피스와 다갈색 실크 점프수트를 공개하면서 화려한 막을 마쳤다.



문영희 디자이너, 아방가르드를 모던하게 풀다

이번 시즌이 다소 여성스러운 디자인이 주를 이뤘다면 디자이너 문영희는 이번 서울컬렉션에서 보다 다른 룩을 선보였다. 그녀는 조용한 피아노 음악으로 쇼를 차분하고 긴장감 있게 주도해 나갔다. 그녀는 올해 흑과 백의 대비가 뚜렷한 아방가르드 룩과 정형화 되지 않는 실루엣을 내놓아 시선을 압도했다.

패션쇼가 끝나고 찾아간 그녀는 “달리는 말에 영감을 받았다, 자유로운 영혼과 공기의 가벼움을 콜렉션을 통해 표현하고 싶었다”고 전했다. 그녀는 두꺼운 실크 소재에 텍스쳐와 볼륨감을 넣어 의상이 가벼워 보이도록 했다.

문영희 디자이너는 변덕스러운 트렌드의 풍파 속에서도 자신의 스타일을 그대로 보여주는 동시에 유기적으로 독특한 디자인의 의상도 선보였다. 문씨는 하얀 셔츠, 베스트 그리고 코트를 여러 벌 레이어링 해 풍성한 실루엣을 만들어냈고 다소 품이 넉넉한 바지에 광택이 나는 무채색의 소재를 조화시키면서 문영희만의 아방가르드룩을 재해석했다.



이상봉 디자이너, 한옥을 현대적으로 재해석하다

세계적으로 많은 주목을 받고 있는 이상봉 디자이너는 올해 한옥으로부터 영감을 받아 컬렉션을 구성했다. 그는 한옥의 건축적인 요소인 창틀과 창살을 이용해 현대적이고 세련된 룩으로 재탄생 시켰다. 그의 구조적 패턴은 블라우스, 블레이저, 미니 원피스와 긴 드레스에 가미 되 레트로적인 느낌을 자아냈다. 춘계 서울 패션위크에서 선보인 이상봉의 컬렉션은 3월 6일 2013 FW 파리 컬렉션에서 미리 선보여진 바 있다.



조은애 디자이너, 기하학적인 무늬로 여성미를 강조하다

Ti:baeg의 신진 디자이너 조은애 디자이너는 기존의 레깅스와 스웨터에 새로운 패턴을 더해 독특한 디자인을 만들어냈다. 그녀는 코트, 레깅스, 스웨터에 다이아몬드 패턴과 군더더기 없는 까만 스웨터를 매치해 전체적인 컬렉션을 풀어냈다. 다소 어지러울 거라는 우려와는 달리 다이아몬드 무늬가 반복된 소재는 오히려 그녀의 콜렉션에 정돈된 이미지를 연출하고 여성미를 강조했다.

In today’s fiercely competitive fashion world where fast fashion poses a formidable threat to emerging designers and local brands struggle against global brands, an understanding of what women really want might be just what smaller players need.

Seoul’s position as a fashion capital may be weak, but Seoul Fashion Week for fall/winter 2013 seemed to have just that.

How and What by Park Byung-kyu lived up to modern women‘s wish to look powerful, confident and smart in sexy, bold looks.

Park Byung-kyu, the designer behind the most loved brand among local women and buyers, offered sexy, skintight dresses in glossy leather and graphic patterns as if borrowed from Catwoman’s closet. But there were also wearable items for the real world such as the mini mustard yellow dress layered with black nets.

“This is about contemporary women who are very smart, women with progressive ideas. Being sexy is not for sex appeal but for showing their female charms,” said Park after the show.

Park also brought elements of the evening looks to daytime wear.

The slim-fitting glossy black trench coat, black leather jackets and variations of vests and an evening dress were pieces that women should keep in mind when in need of a boost to their self-esteem.

Accessories such as the metal trim clutch, snakeskin print clutch, Spiderman web-inspired thigh-high boots and bold necklaces added extra confidence to the looks.

Inspired by punk, a longtime symbol of rebellion and youth, Steve J & Yoni P brought the subculture to the mainstream, substituting studs with crystal beads and metallic prints, which were incorporated into knit sweaters, sweatshirts, belted skirts and trousers.

The wide-sleeve blouse with crowned skull print paired with matching print trousers was shown to the audience before the show as singer Lee Hyo-ri made her appearance wearing the same piece.

The red-and-black checkered skirt with gold metallic prints was a fresh approach to the conventional checkered patterns seen numerous times on the catwalks for the fall/winter season.

The designer couple, who had an indie band play background music for their S/S 2013 show, also invited a pianist and a DJ to play upbeat and playful music during the show.

Kang Ki-ok at Kiok also opened her show with live beat boxing by Go Young-bin, following a symbolic opening film.

The designer said she found her inspiration in her New York studio. The white brick and wooden furniture became motifs in blouse, mini dress, a denim padded jumpers. The brick pattern was well incorporated with the blue-denim light padding jumper. Simplification of the interior-inspired motifs appeared toward the end of the show in a pink and white color block mini dress and flowing silk chiffon jumpsuit in wooden brown.

While efforts to imbue the shows with youthful and playful feelings prevailed, Moon Young Hee presented her signature style of sophisticated and deconstructed tailoring in her serene show, the mood underlined by the soothing piano music.

“My inspiration came from a vast field where horses run freely. I wanted to express the free spirit, and lightness of the air in the collection,” said Moon after the show.

Despite using heavy silk fabric, the designer created lightness by cutting and adding volume.

Layers of white shirts, vests and overcoats created her signature puffy silhouette and the overcoat in glossy white or black silk that came with flared trousers maintained the calm ambience.

Lie Sang-bong presented a collection with motifs of Korea’s traditional “hanok” house, the same collection that was shown during the Paris Fashion Week for the 2013 fall and winter season.

The geometric patterns were the dominant feature on blouses, blazers, mini dresses and long dresses.

Tiebaeg by rookie designer Cho Eun-ae will be a name to keep in mind for great leggings and sweaters -- the key pieces worn under winter overcoats.

The white leggings with repetitions of black diamond-shaped patterns came paired with a light black sweater featuring flower prints in the front. The diamond-shape patterns continued on white sweaters and on the hem of the overcoats.
