A man was taken into custody for attempted vehicle burglary just two days after he was released from prison.

“I was too hungry and did not have anywhere else to go,” the suspect was reported to have said.

According to the Ulsan Nambu Police Station, the 27-year-old had lost both of his parents at an early age and had also recently lost his grandmother, with whom he had been living.

The police said he had 10,000 won when he was released. With the money, he bought cigarettes and a piece of bread after spending a night at a sauna. He had just 400 won when he was arrested a second time.
 
The man attempted to steal jewelry from an empty car near a residential area in Mugeo-dong, in southern Ulsan. He was caught by the car owner from the villa’s veranda and taken to a nearby homeless center after the investigation.

“배고파..” 출소 이틀만에 빈차털이

울산 남부경찰서는 25일 출소 이틀 만에 다른 사람의 차량에서 금품을 훔치려 한 혐의(절도미수)로 이모(27)씨를 불구속 입건했다.

이씨는 지난 24일 오전 6시 25분께 울산시 남구 무거동의 한 주택가에서 문이 잠겨 있지 않은 스파크 승용차를 뒤진 혐의를 받고 있다.

이씨는 절도죄로 8개월간 형을 살다가 지난 22일 출소했으나 돈이 없어 밥을 먹지 못해 범행했다고 진술했다고 경찰은 밝혔다.

이씨는 부모를 일찍 여의고 같이 살던 할머니마저 최근 숨져서 ‘집도 절도 없었다’고 경찰은 전했다.

이씨는 차 안에서 금품을 훔치려고 했으나 차 주인이 자신의 빌라 베란다에서 일하다가 이씨를 발견, 경찰에 신고해 붙잡혔다.

경찰의 한 관계자는 “출소할 때 이씨에게 1만원이 있었는데 찜질방에서 잠을 자고, 담배 1갑과 빵 1개를 샀다”며 “검거 당시 이씨에게 단돈 400원밖에 없었다”고 말했다. (연합뉴스)
