North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a special forces unit and was briefed on its mission and training status, state media reported Saturday.

   The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) monitored in Seoul said Kim, who holds the rank of Marshal in the Korean People's Army, toured the headquarters element of Unit 1973.

   The visit occurred Friday, with the North's official news wire service stressing there was "profound meaning" in Kim checking of the unit, although it did not elaborate on details. It said the commanding officer briefed Kim, with the leader emphasizing that all service personnel be fully prepared to defend the country and remain faithful to the goal of national unification.

   "Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il attached importance to this unit and it is the unit he regards as the most important and the Party trusts," the KCNA quoting the leader said. Kim Il-sung is the founder of North Korea and the incumbent leader's grandfather, while Kim Jong-il is his son, who died in late 2011 and left power to Kim Jong-un.

   The North Korean leader has been making regular trips to military units and overseeing drills as well as giving instructions on preparedness of troops as the communist country has ratcheted up tensions on the Korean Peninsula after it detonated its third nuclear device on Feb. 12.

   Pyongyang has unilaterally nullified the Armistice Agreement that halted the Korean War (1950-53) and said it will no longer respect the non-aggression pacts reached between the two Koreas in the past.

   The media report also said Kim gave binoculars, automatic rifles and machine gun to troops.

   North Korean analysts in Seoul said that Kim probably visited the special forces unit under the 11th corp stationed in South Pyongan Province.

"일단 싸움 터지면 南 통치기관 타격·소멸하라"

북한 김정은 국방위원회 제1위원장이 22일  '오중흡7연대' 칭호를 받은 인민군 제1973군부대 지휘부를 시찰했다고 조선중앙통신이 23일 보도했다.

    김 제1위원장은 "대원수님들(김일성·김정일)께서 이 부대를 중시했고 나도  제일 중시하는 부대, 당이 믿는 부대"라며 "오늘 이 부대를 시찰한 데는 깊은 의도가 있다"고 말했다고 통신은 전했다.

    그는 '적 지역 지형사판'과 부대 작전계획을 보면서 부대장으로부터 부대의  작전 전투임무 수행과 훈련실태에 대해 보고를 받았다.

    김 제1위원장은 "부대 앞에는 적의 아성을 타고 앉아야 할 중요한 임무가  맡겨져있다"라며 "일단 싸움이 터지면 적의 심장부에 벼락같이 돌입해 맡은  군사대상물과 괴뢰 반동통치기관을 불이 번쩍 나게 타격·소멸해야 한다"고 강조했다.

    그러면서 이 부대에 "주요 타격대상을 바로 정하고 중요대상물을 빠짐없이 장악하라"며 "훈련강령을 옳게 작성하고 훈련을 실전과 같이 진행해 유사시 전투원들이적구(적 지역)에서 자유자재로 활동할 수 있게 준비시켜야 한다"고 지시했다.

    김 제1위원장은 이 부대의 직속 구분대도 돌아보며 "적후(적의 후방)에서  싸우게 될 부대 군인들의 생활을 잘 돌보아주어야 한다"고 말했다.

    김 제1위원장의 1973군부대 시찰에는 최룡해 군 총정치국장, 황병서 노동당  조직부 부부장, 박정천 군 중장 등이 동행했다.

    김 제1위원장이 이날 시찰한 부대는 평안남도 지역에 위치한 11군단(舊  경보교도지도국) 관하 특수부대로 추정된다.

    조선중앙통신은 "최고사령관(김정은) 동지는 장군님(김정일)께서 생애 마지막 시기인 2011년 11월 30일 이 부대가 진행하는 시가전 훈련을 보아주었다면서 장군님을 모시고 훈련장에 왔던 그날을 추억했다"고 전했다.

    당시 북한 매체들은 김정일·김정은 부자가 2011년 11월 30일 인민군 630대 연합부대(11군단으로 알려짐)의 종합전술훈련을 참관했다고 전했다.

    조선중앙통신은 김정일 국방위원장이 2003년 5월 23일에도 이 부대를  시찰했다고 밝혔다.
