A self-proclaimed pastor has been indicted on charges of defaming President Park Geun-hye by falsely accusing her of bribing late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il during a 2002 visit to Pyongyang, prosecutors said Tuesday.

In two video clips posted on the Internet last month, Cho Woong, whose real name is Cho Byeong-kyu, claimed that Park had handed over 50 billion won (US$45.6 million) to Kim during the visit in violation of the National Security Law banning giving any monetary support to the communist country.

The videos spread quickly on social networking sites, topping more than 200,000 hits in a few days. Park was then president-elect.

Cho, 77, has been criminally punished five other times for spreading false information in incidents spanning nearly 40 years, they said.

Meanwhile, prosecutors said they are also investigating an accomplice, only identified by his surname Kang, for making and posting the video clips.

Park made the trip in her individual capacity at the invitation of the late North Korean leader. After the trip, Park said she and Kim had discussed wide-ranging issues, including inter-Korean relations. (Yonhap News)

박근혜 비방 ‘조웅목사,’ 구속기소!

서울중앙지검 첨단범죄수사1부(박근범 부장검사 )는 인터넷 동영상 인터뷰를 통해 박근혜 대통령을 비방한 혐의(정보통신망법상 명예훼손 등)로 조웅(77•본명 조병규)씨를 구속기소했다고 12일 밝혔다.

검찰에 따르면 자칭 목사인 조씨는 지난달 15일과 18일 두 차례에 걸쳐 모 인터 넷 사이트에 올린 3시간여 분량의 인터뷰 동영상에서 박 대통령을 비방한 혐의를 받 고 있다.

조씨는 동영상에서 박 대통령의 배후에 최태민 목사와 그의 사위가 있으며, 박 대통령이 과거 북한을 방문했을 때 김정일 전 국방위원장에게 500억원을 건네고 국가보안법을 위반했다는 등의 허위 주장을 편 것으로 조사됐다.

조씨는 세 번째 방송을 예고하고 지난달 21일 서울 대학로의 한 유명 찻집에서 실시간 방송을 내보내던 중 검찰 수사관들이 찾아와 체포영장을 제시하자 욕설을 하며 영장 등본을 찢어버린 혐의(공용서류손상)도 받고 있다.

앞서 조씨는 1962년 중앙계엄고등군법회의에서 유언비어죄로 징역 10월을 선고받은 것을 비롯해 비슷한 범죄전력으로 5차례 형사처벌을 받은 것으로 드러났다.

검찰은 조씨를 인터뷰해 인터넷에 올린 동영상 제작자 강모씨에 대한 고발장을 접수해 수사하고 있다.
