An Indonesian actress, who was appointed last year as a “Goodwill Ambassador for Public Diplomacy” for South Korea, said Monday that she aims to “make a difference” in developing people-to-people links between the two nations.

Actress Revalina S. Temat, 27, took the post last September after she starred in the first joint Korean-Indonesia TV drama, “Saranghae, I Love You.” She is visiting Seoul this week as part of her activities marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

“As a goodwill ambassador for public diplomacy, I really want to make a difference,” she told a group of Korean journalists.

“I am very, very happy and proud of taking that title,” she said.

The “Korean Wave” of pop culture is enjoying a growing popularity in Indonesia and it helps Indonesian people better understand Korean culture and people, she said.

“The Korean Wave is very popular in Indonesia and so I want to let Indonesian people know more about Korea,” she said.

To mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, South Korea’s foreign ministry also hosted a series of events named “ROK (South Korea)-Indonesia Year of Friendship” in Jakarta last week. (Yonhap News)
