A Busan woman was taken into custody after she made a false emergency call, police said Thursday.

Officials at the Gyeonggi Uiwang Police Station said they had detained a 42-year-old woman surnamed Kim for calling the 112 Crime Report Center for a non-emergency situation. The officials added that the case had been transferred to the Busan police.

According to the police, Kim dialed the Busan emergency center around midnight Tuesday and yelled “Help!” before hanging up the phone. Busan police said they suspected a kidnapping and initiated an investigation.

They found out that Kim was on a cargo truck headed toward Gyeonggi Province, and asked local police for cooperation.

When Gyeonggi police officials secured the vehicle, they discovered that the cargo truck driver was Kim’s boyfriend and she was simply hitching a ride. Police also discovered that Kim had been drunk when she made the false 112 call.

Officials at the Busan Nambu Police Station said Kim had a history of raising false alarms. Police added they will decide on whether they will charge her as soon as the investigation is complete.

부산 남부 경찰서는 이 여성이 예전에도 여러 번 허위신고한 전력이 있다면서, 조사가 마무리되는 데로 여성에 대한 형사입건 여부를 결정할 것이라고 밝혔다.
