Helping Others Prosper through English is looking for new recruits for its volunteer teaching program, with a recruitment session in Seoul on March 2.

The 4-year-old organization works with 12 volunteer learning centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, teaching English to underprivileged children.

They are now looking for new volunteers to replace those who have left Korea or relocated because of the change in the school year.

Volunteers should be citizens or have a long-term visa, such as a teaching or student visa, and a criminal background check. They should also be prepared to commit for a minimum of three months.

“Most volunteer teachers fall in love with their students and stay with us even longer,” said Eddie Robinson, vice president of operations at HOPE.

Applicants will have to go through a short interview before being assigned.

HOPE is also looking for a director’s assistant to help with communication and project tasks, as well as bilingual Korean volunteers to lead or assist foreign teachers in class.

The group will hold an open meeting at Sam Ryan’s pub in Itaewon on March 2 at noon to invite new volunteers. Those who intend to go should bring a resume and volunteer application form, and are asked to notify the group in advance via eddierobinson@alwayshope.or.kr, or (010) 2464-8234.
