IT service firm LG CNS said Sunday that it planned to build Korea’s first data center park in Busan on top of its recently established cloud data center.

The firm said its facility called the LG CNS Busan Global Cloud Data Center has been up and running since early this year and that it currently has 72,000 servers. An increasing number of servers will be located at the site as it scales up to 133,000 square meters from 9,777 square meters.

The project was launched after the Ministry of Knowledge Economy unveiled its plan to support cloud data centers here which could exceed the performance of those located in Singapore and Hong Kong.

“LG CNS has given birth to a data center that established high energy efficiency and one that could be protected from natural disasters with its more than 20 years of expertise in data center operations,” said Kim Young-sup, executive vice president of solution projects unit at the company.

As part of its efforts to provide differentiated cloud services to global firms especially in the Asia-Pacific region, it has built a system that is even safe from floods and a magnitude 8.0 earthquake, according to LG CNS officials.

The firm has also built what it calls a “chimney,” which acts as an air ventilation system that brings down the heat level coming out of its servers, they said. It is the first in the country to introduce such a system.

The built-up air conditioning system is another facility that uses air from outside for cooling, said LG CNS officials.

“As a representative global cloud data center, we plan to offer differentiated cloud services to international firms that wish to set up IT headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region such as those in Japan along with local firms,” said Kim.
