A 58-year-old man was arrested on the charge of threatening to blow up a casino, police said Thursday.

The suspect allegedly threatened Kangwon Land, the country’s only casino open to Korean citizens, located in Gangwon Province. He made the casino tell the guests to leave because he would blow up the facilities, Mokpo Police said. He called the casino three times on Thursday morning from 8:38 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. from a motel in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province.

The casino, however, was closed Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. so no guests were attendant at the facility. Police arrived immediately following the calls and detected for explosives, but none were found.

According to an official at Kangwon Land, the suspect lost a sum of money from gambling and was banned from entering the casino for three months after he got into a feud with another guest on Feb. 2.

He later confessed that he threatened the casino in an attempt to eradicate injustice in society.

카지노인 강원랜드 객장을 폭파하겠다고 전화로 협박한 50대가 경찰에 붙잡혔다.

전남 목포경찰서는 14일 강원랜드에 전화를 걸어 “카지노를 폭파하겠다”고 협박한 혐의로 58세의 남자를 붙잡아 조사하고 있다.

그는 이날 오전 “카지노 객장 손님을 모두 밖으로 내보내라, 카지노 객장을 폭파하겠다”는 내용의 협박전화를 건 혐의를 받고 있다. 용의자는 전남 목포시의 한 모텔 객실에서 오전 8시38분부터 오전 9시50분까지 3차례 협박전화를 한 것으로 확인됐다.

신고를 받은 강원랜드측은 곧바로 112로 경찰에 신고했으며 경찰이 긴급 출동하는 등 한동안 소동이 빚어졌다. 카지노는 오전 6시부터 오전 10시까지는 영업을 하지 않아 객장에는 이용객이 없었으며 실제로 폭발물이 설치되지는 않은 것으로 밝혀졌다.

강원랜드의 한 관계자는에 따르면 협박을 한 용의자는 카지노 객장을 출입하면서 돈을 잃은데다 지난 4일 객장에서 다른 손님과 마찰을 빚어 3개월간 출입제한 조치를 받았다고 전했다.

그는 경찰 조사에서 “썩은 사회를 고치려고 범행을 했다”고 진술했다고 밝혔다. (코리아헤럴드)
