The National Assembly adopted a resolution on Thursday condemning North Korea’s underground nuclear test two days prior, characterizing it as a grave threat to the lives of the South Korean people and stability of the Korean Peninsula.

“We cannot tolerate North Korea’s nuclear test and strongly condemn it as a serious provocation threatening the lives and safety of the South Korean people,” the resolution read. “Responsibility for all issues arising from (the nuclear test) lies with North Korea.”

The resolution was put to a vote before 185 of the 300 National Assembly members. All the attending lawmakers approved it. All six lawmakers of the leftist United Progressive Party did not participated in the session, inviting criticism from the conservative ruling Saenuri Party.

Afterwards, the parliament held an interpellation session where five lawmakers from the governing Saenuri Party and four from the main opposition Democratic United Party probed the government’s response to Pyongyang’s provocation.
