Volunteer group PLUR will host a quiz night to help spread the word about its activities and raise funds to support its operations.

The “Know Your Seoul” quiz night at the Rocky Mountain Tavern will have general knowledge sections as well as more whimsical rounds, such as “Particular Folliculars,” in which contestants have to identify famous people by their moustaches.

PLUR runs several regular activity groups such as Feed Your Seoul, Help Your Seoul and Teach Your Seoul for volunteers to help feed the homeless, run clothing drives, teach disadvantaged children and more.

Greg Garrigues, the organizer of the event and coordinator of Help Your Seoul, said that PLUR usually held a fund-raiser like this once or twice a year to raise funds, with the last one being in May.

He said the groups had been enjoying a healthy level of participation.

“For the most part we’ve had a pretty steady flow of volunteers coming in and out. Obviously it’s a very transient group because people are in and out of the country,” he said, adding that Feed Your Seoul was usually full every week, while others such as Teach your Seoul were doing well but could benefit from one or two more volunteers.

“We just need a little extra cash, to pay for supplies and prepare for summer and to expand our operations to help fund new groups like Pet Your Seoul.“

Pet Your Seoul started in January, and visits animal shelters to help clean the enclosures and help with other tasks.

The event is at Rocky Mountain Tavern on Saturday and runs from 7:45 to 11:30 p.m. A minimum donation of 10,000 won is required to participate.
