An adult dating website often used by married people looking for an affair was accessed thousands of times a month by computers used exclusively by British Parliament members and their employees, British news outlets reported Sunday.

According to data provided by the Mail on Sunday, parliamentary computer users visited Out Of Town Affairs website a total of 24,961 times from October to December of 2012. The paper said it obtained the information by submitting a freedom of information request concerning most frequently visited websites by parliament computers.

Out of Town Affairs is an adult dating service that helps its married members “find someone to have a quick affair with while out of town,” according to its official website.

The spokesperson for the British parliament said more than 5,000 people had access to parliamentary network computers and that the Out of Town Affairs website had been blocked from the network.

“We allow people to use the computers for personal use in non-working hours,” she said, adding that no investigation would be launched into the matter.

아웃오브타운 어페어스는 성인 전용 데이트 사이트로서, 유부남 유부녀들의 간통을 알선하는 사이트로 알려져 있다. 보도에 따르면 12월달에 의회 컴퓨터로 이 사이트에 접속한 건수가 일부 정부 부처에 접속한 건수보다 많다고 한다.

웹사이트의 운영자는 의회 컴퓨터가 이렇게 많은 접속 건수를 기록한 것에 대해 “정말 놀랍다”라며 “이번 일 때문에 의원들의 부인들로부터 항의 메일을 받지 않았으면 좋겠다”라고 덧붙였다.

더 메일 온 선데이에 따르면 의회 컴퓨터가 자주 접속한 사이트는 이 외에 도박, 게임, SNS 채팅 사이트 등이 있었다고 한다. 지루할 때 할 수 있는 간단한 게임들을 모은 “아이엠 보어드닷컴 (i-am bored.com: 나 지루해)는 2012년 마지막 세 달동안 의회에서만 2만 1371의 접속 건수를 기록했으며 페이스북에 접속 건수는 1년 동안 2천8백만을 상회했다.

영국 납세자 연합의 일원인 로버트 오클리는 “납세자들은 의원들과 직원들이 입법이나 국정조사으로 시간을 보내길 바라지, 불륜 상대를 찾기를 바라지 않는다”며 황당하다는 반응을 보였다.

한편 의회 대변인은 의회 네트워크에서 아웃오브타운 어페어스의 접속을 차단했다고 밝히며, 이 사건과 관련된 조사는 하지 않을 것이라고 설명했다.
