The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Thursday it will offer a 500,000 won ($458) reward to anyone with information about taxis ripping off foreign tourists in a bid to stem unfair practices.

The municipal government revised its ordinance to provide rewards to people who report taxi drivers overcharging foreign riders, officials said.

Foreign passengers being cheated by cabbies can also report the scam to the city government and be rewarded, they added.

The move is part of the authority‘s efforts to root out unfair practices by local cabs on foreign tourists that could tarnish the national image as a tourist destination, officials said.

A total of 390 specialized cabs for foreigners currently operate in the capital city, they said. The “international taxis” is equipped with interpretation services in English and Japanese and run by a driver who has a good command of the languages. (Yonhap News)

'외국인 바가지' 택시 신고하면 포상금

서울 시내에서 외국인 관광객에게 부당요금을 받는 택시를 신고하면 50만원의 포상금을 준다.

서울시는 지난 6일 제2회 조례•규칙 심의회를 열고 이런 내용의 ’여객자동차운수사업법 위반행위 신고포상금 지급 조례‘ 개정안을 의결했다고 7일 밝혔다.

개정 조례안에 따르면 외국인 관광객을 대상으로 부당요금을 받은 택시를 신고 하면 포상금 50만원을 지급한다. 부당요금을 요구받아 낸 외국인이 신고해도 포상금을 준다.

심의회는 인사동 내에서 ’전통문화 상품인증제‘를 시행하고 문화지구 내 권장시설 건물 소유자와 운영자에 대한 융자금액을 5천만원에서 1억원으로 증액하는 내용의 ’문화지구 및 육성에 관한 조례‘ 개정안도 의결했다.

이 조례안에는 문화지구 내에서 증가하는 마사지, 화장품점 등 비문화•신종업종을 금지 영업•시설로 추가했다.

심의회는 아울러 공무원의 직무 발명 특허에 대한 등록보상금 지급액을 상향 조정하는 내용의 ’공무원 직무발명 보상조례‘ 개정안, 저소득층에 대해 신규임용시험 응시수수료를 면제하는 내용을 골자로 한 ’인사규칙‘ 개정안도 의결했다.

아울러 이사시기 불일치로 임대보증금을 받지 못한 세입자에게 사회복지기금에서 보증금을 대출해주는 ’사회복지기금조례‘ 개정안 등도 통과시켰다.

심의회에서 의결된 조례안은 서울시의회에 제출되며 규칙안은 21일 공포될 예정이다. (연합뉴스)
