Samsung to launch Windows 8-based smartphone in Hong Kong

Samsung Electronics Co., the world‘s top maker of smartphones, memory chips and flat-panel TVs, said Wednesday it will start selling a new smartphone that runs on Windows 8 in Hong Kong.
The ATIV S will go on sale in the Chinese territory on Thursday as the South Korean tech behemoth seeks to expand its product line of mobile devices and meet the needs of different consumers.
“Equipped with the latest Windows Phone 8 smartphone operating system, the new Samsung ATIV S enables users to enjoy the efficiency of working on a desktop through their mobile devices,” said Zhao Yiyin, the product marketing director of Samsung Electronics in Hong Kong.
“The new Samsung ATIV S is a smartphone that can truly integrate work and fun into our daily lives.”
Apart from the latest Windows operating system, Microsoft Office is also preloaded on ATIV S, allowing users to use the popular Word, PowerPoint and Excel programs, without being restricted by time and geographic location, Samsung Electronics officials said.
ATIV S features a polished metallic encasing and premium hairline surface, along with its stunningly thin design at just 8.7mm in thickness. It is designed to target trendy and stylish consumers, the company said.
The product is equipped with a 4.8-inch display and 1.5 gigahertz high-speed dual core processor that enables an easy and smooth preview of both videos and games.
The extensive battery life of 2300 milliamp-hours ensures users with uninterrupted web browsing, non-stop playing of HD videos and games as well as multi-application processing, the company stressed.
The 4.8-inch high definition Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode display surpasses other Windows Phone 8 smartphones in the market, presenting a vividly large and vibrant screen for users to enjoy, it added. (Yonhap News)

아티브S는 유광 메탈릭의 유려한 외장에 8.7mm의 얇은 두께를 자랑하며 4.8인치 디스플레이와 고성능 1.5기가헤르츠 듀얼코어프로세서를 장착해 영상과 게임도 무리없이 구동시킬 수 있다고 삼성 측은 덧붙였다.
한편 지난해 8월 처음 발표된 후 유럽시장을 중심으로 출시되어 온 아티브S는 국내시장에서 공식적인 출시 계획은 아직 없는 것으로 알려졌다. (코리아헤럴드)
