A man who allegedly killed his family in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, on Jan. 30 may not be a psychopath, according to profilers.

Park, 25, thoroughly planned to murder his entire family last month. He drugged his parents with sleeping pills, then later in the night his brother. After that, he left all three to suffocate on briquette fumes after he set fire to the coal in their rooms. He left behind clues pointing to a murder-suicide with his brother to blame.

Experts, however, said it remains unclear whether Park is a psychopath.

In analyzing Park’s elaborate plan, profilers assumed that he might have the personality disorder, since patricide cases rarely accompany such perfect schemes.

Also, while in jail, the Park said things like, “I will tell you all the truth if you let me meet my girlfriend,” or “I am smart,” while also actively talking with other inmates. Profilers regard these as signs of psychopathy.

However, Park has not had any problems in relationships with people in college. More importantly, his words are not very logical, profilers from the North Jeolla Provincial Police Agency said. Psychopathic criminals show an extremely high level of logic when they speak.

The investigators plan to conduct a psychopathy test on Park on Tuesday.

If he is deemed a psychopath, his sentence will be reduced and Park will receive appropriate treatment.

‘일가족 살해’ 아들, 싸이코패스인가

지난달 30일 전북 전주에서 일가족 3명을 살해한 혐의(존속살해)로 구속된 둘째 아들 박모(25)씨가 사이코패스일 가능성이 낮다는 분석이 나왔다.

전북지방경찰청 소속 프로파일러는 “박씨는 유영철과 강호순 등 연쇄살인범들이 보였던 감정과 표정이 없거나 지나치게 언변이 논리적이라는 특징이 보이지 않고 있다”며 “사이코패스 가능성이 낮아 보인다”고 말했다.

하지만 “존속살인 사건 중 이렇게 계획적인 범행은 극히 드물다는 점 등은 사이코패스 가능성을 완전히 배제할 수 없어 정확한 결과는 검사를 해봐야 알 것 같다”고 덧붙였다.

그는 박씨가 검거 뒤 보였던 ‘반성 없는 태도’에 대해서는 ‘심리적 방어 기재’가 작동한 것으로 보인다고 분석했다.

박씨는 유치장에서 “여자친구와 단둘이 만나게 해주면 범행 동기를 밝히겠다” 또는 “나는 머리가 똑똑하다”고 말하거나 유치장 수감자들과 쾌활하게 지내는 등 사이코패스로 의심살만한 언행을 보여왔다.

전북경찰청 과학수사대는 이날 오전 박씨에 대해 사이코패스 검사를 할 예정이다.

박씨는 성격평가(PIA), 반사회적 인격장애 검사(PCL-R), 프로파일러 면담 등을 통해 사이코패스 여부를 판단 받게 된다.

사이코패스 검사는 언변, 종전 전과, 성욕 지수 등 20개 문항으로 이뤄졌으며 각 문항당 0, 1, 2점으로 점수를 매겨 40점 만점 중 24점이 넘으면 사이코패스로 진단된다.

역대 가장 높았던 점수는 21명을 토막살인한 유영철로 39점이었고 정남규 29점 강호순 27∼28점이었다.

박씨가 사이코패스로 진단받으면 박씨는 격리치료와 치료감호소 수감, 감형 등의 조치를 받게 된다.

사건을 수사 중인 경찰의 한 관계자는 “현재 드러난 박씨의 전력과 성향으로 보면 전과가 전혀 없고, 4년제 대학에 다니면서도 대인관계에 이상이 없었다”면서 “하지만 존속살인을 이렇게 치밀하게 계획한 경우는 처음 봐 상세하게 검사를 할 예정이다”고 말했다.

한편 박씨는 지난달 30일 오전 1시께 아파트 작은방에서 아버지(52), 어머니 황모(55)씨에게 수면제를 탄 음료수를 먹여 잠들게 한 뒤 미리 준비한 연탄불을 피워 숨지게 한 혐의를 받고 있다.

이어 형(27)과 함께 밖에서 술을 마신 뒤 오전 5시께 들어와 안방에서 같은 방법으로 형을 살해했다. (연합)
