A runaway teenager lied about being kidnapped to avoid getting in trouble with her mother, according to police.

The 18-year-old surnamed Kim, who had left home 8 months ago, called her mother early on Monday morning to tell her that she was locked in a room in Busan, South Gyeonsang Province.

“I’m on the third floor of a red brick four-story building in Moradong, Busan. There are three rooms in the hallway,” said Kim to her mother on the phone.

Some 80 police officers searched Moradong area buildings with the exterior as described by Kim for 16 hours, only to discover that Kim was in Daejeon with a male friend.

After police tracked Kim down to Daejeon, Kim confessed that she initially called to let her mother know that she was safe, but worried that her mother would scold her, she lied about being kidnapped.

28일 오전부터 밤 10시까지 무려 16시간 동안 모라동 인근의 빌라를 수색했지만, 찾지 못했다.

알고 보니 김양은 부산이 아닌 대전에서 알고 지내던 30대 남성의 전화를 빌려 어머니에게 자신은 무사하다는 안부전화를 하려다가 혼날 까봐 겁이 나 거짓말을 하는 바람에 사태가 커진 것으로 드러났다. (코리아헤럴드)
