An increasing number of women in Britain are injecting fat into their bodies to change how they look, a British cosmetic surgeon group said.

According to data published by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the number of women who had undergone fat transfer procedures in the U.K. came to 2,641 in 2012, marking a 13 percent increase from the year before.

BAAPS president Rajiv Grover said that people wanting to receive procedures have risen by double digits, despite the country’s economic downturn. More and more women want to take steps to look younger and more attractive, leading to an increased demand for such procedures.

Physicians said that British women seem to be influenced by U.S. celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.

Michael Cadier, president-elect of BAAPS, said some women have even asked to enlarge their bottoms by injecting fat.

“In my experience, they want to enhance their contours rather than get a massive bottom to mimic the U.S. trend, but we do get people inquiring about (enlargements),” he told the Daily Mail.

The association added that recent scandal over breast implants may have discouraged women from injecting foreign substances into their bodies and instead prompted them to use their own body’s fat supplies.

According to BAAPS, the number of women wanting to take breast-enlargement surgery decreased last year, in contrast to the general trend.

BAAPS의 차기 회장인 마이클 카디에르는 몇몇 여성들의 경우, 지방을 엉덩이에 주입해 확대하는 시술을 요구했다고 말했다.

“제 경험에 따르면 (여성들의) 대부분 엉덩이를 거대하게 만들기보다는 몸의 윤곽을 멋지게 만들고 싶어하지만, 그런 식으로 (확대술을) 요구하는 사람도 있습니다”라고 카디에르는 말했다.

BAAPS는 최근 유럽에서 있었던 가슴 보형물 파동 등으로 인해 여성들이 외부 물질을 몸에 주입하기보다는 스스로의 몸에서 나온 지방을 주입하는 쪽으로 방향을 틀었다고 설명했다. 협회는 가슴확대술을 원하는 여성의 수가 작년에 줄어들었다고 말했는데, 이 수치가 지금까지는 거의 매년 올랐다는 것을 감안하면 극적인 변화라고 볼 수 있다.
