About 70 percent of ad images posted on Korean Internet news websites are “overly suggestive,” according to a consumer group study.

The Korea Consumer Affairs Institute, a nonprofit organization, released the results of a study on Monday, based on 501 ads on online news media posted in May and June last year. The research showed that 205 of the 501 ads had photos, 69.9 percent of which included “lewd images.”

Among the 174 ad photos considered lewd, 36.8 percent featured close-ups of specific body parts like breasts or buttocks, and 22.4 percent had models wearing only underwear or bikini swimsuits.

The study criticized the ad copy, too. It said 46.3 percent of the ads presented sensational titles, and 93 ads adopted sex-related ones.

Back in 2011, the Korea Communications Commission and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family ordered local online news media to remove materials it considered harmful, including suggestive ads and titles.

“Although most ads posted on online news media websites include suggestive expressions, it is still difficult to solve the problems since there is no specific government regulation,” KCAI said.

국내 인터넷 신문사 웹사이트에 게시된 광고 이미지들의 약 70퍼센트가 선정적인 내용이라는 연구결과가 나왔다.

민간 비영리 조직인 한국소비자연구원은 지난해 5월부터 6월 사이에 게시된 국내 온라인 신문사 광고 501건을 대상으로 한 연구결과를 28일 발표했다. 연구결과에 따르면 대상이 된 501건의 광고 가운데 205건이 사진 이미지를 포함하고 있었는데 그 69.9퍼센트가 선정적인 것으로 나타났다.

또, 이 174건의 선정적 광고사진 가운데 36.8퍼센트가 가슴이나 엉덩이 등의 신체 특정부위를 확대한 사진을 담고 있었고, 22.4퍼센트는 속옷이나 비키니 수영복만 입은 모델의 과도한 신체 노출장면을 그대로 보여주고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

광고 사진 못지 않게 선정적인 광고 문구도 문제가 됐다. 501건의 광고 가운데 46.3퍼센트가 선정적인 문구를 담고 있었고, 그 가운데 93건은 직접적으로 성과 관련된 문장을 제목으로 사용했다.

이러한 온라인 신문사 광고의 도를 넘은 선정성에 대해 방송통신위원회와 여성가족부는 지난 2011년 이미 시정 요구조치를 내린 바 있다.

한국소비생활연구원은 “국내 온라인 신문사의 광고 대부분이 선정적 내용을 포함하고 있음에도 불구하고 이를 규제할 정부규정이 없어 사실상 문제를 해결하기 곤란한 상황이다”고 밝혔다. (코리아헤럴드)
