Hanwha Group has donated a solar module to the city of Davos, Switzerland, taking part in a global campaign to reduce carbon dioxide, company officials said.

Hanwha Q-Cells held a donation ceremony at the city’s town hall on Tuesday, shortly before the opening of the 43rd annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.

The corresponding module is to be installed by the end of the year on the roof of the Davos Congress Center building and will generate 340 kilowatts of solar energy per year, officials said.

Hong Ki-joon, vice chairman of Hanwha Chemical, attended the occasion as the conglomerate’s representative.

“Hanwha Group is glad to share the environment-friendly spirit, which is also a key slogan of the Davos Forum,” Hong said.

“We will focus on promoting solar energy to the most trustworthy source of energy on earth.”

Last year, the company acquired German solar cell maker Q-Cells and became the world’s third-largest solar power supplier, with a total output capacity of 2.4 gigawatts annually.

“Davos is one of the top energy-efficient cities as acknowledged by the Swiss government and is carrying forward a sustainable green growth policy,” said Tarzisius Caviezel, the city’s mayor, thanking Hanwha for the donation.
