A college student has been arrested for setting fire to the house of his girlfriend, who wanted to finish the relationship, police reported.

Yangcheon police station in central Seoul said that the suspect had been arrested for committing arson on Dec. 29, resulting in severe burns inflicted on the woman’s disabled father.

Police investigation revealed that the 20-year-old suspect had thrown a burning cigarette butt into his ex-girlfriend’s window when he failed to contact her after waiting for hours in front of her house.

The fire completely consumed the house after firefighters rescued the father, who was inside the house at the time of the incident.

'헤어져..' 통보에 전 여친 집 불질러


서울 양천경찰서는 이별을 통보한 여자친구 집에 불을 질러 여자친구 아버지에게 화상을 입힌 혐의로 대학생 김모(20)씨를 구속했다.

경찰에 따르면 김씨는 지난달 29일 오전 2시10분께 서울 양천구에 있는 여자친구 A(20)씨의 아파트에 불을 질러 지체장애인인 A씨의 아버지에게 2개월의 치료를 요하는 화상을 입힌 혐의를 받고 있다.

조사결과 김씨는 A씨를 만나려고 집 앞에서 한참 기다렸지만 A씨가 귀가하지 않고 전화도 안 받자 아파트 복도쪽 A씨 방 창문을 열고 불이 붙은 담배꽁초를 침대에 던진 것으로 나타났다. 당시 A씨는 송년 모임에 참석한 것으로 전해졌다.

불은 집을 완전히 태웠으며, 출동한 소방대원들이 집 안에 있던 A씨의 아버지를 구조하고 불을 진화했다고 경찰은 전했다.
