Following is part of a series on Seoul’s hottest bars and clubs. ― Ed.

Most bars in Seoul do not differ greatly from one another. They uniformly feature a modern or futuristic interior with loud music. It is not bad to be in such an environment, but in a party scene like that, people get exhausted and everyone needs an escape from time to time to a more relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Club Horizon located on the top floor of Renaissance Seoul Hotel is a perfect place for a relaxing and comfortable night out alone or with friends.

Originally a members-only lounge when it opened in 1988, Club Horizon is one of the few existing sky lounges in Seoul today. It transformed itself into a walk-in bar eight years ago and lets everyone enjoy the nighttime view of Teheran road from its 23rd-floor location.

It is still a fairly unknown place to many, making it perfect for those looking for a quiet night out with a glass of whiskey. The windows of the sky lounge, shaped like a dome, are reminiscent of a cathedral or a vinyl house, but more luxurious. Its black walls match well with the lights covering the entire ceiling. The classic wooden chairs and sofas add to the luxurious environment.

The view is at its best during the summer when guests can see the rain outside with the sound of raindrops falling onto the bar’s glass ceiling, and at sunset when light comes in through the windows. While traditional hotel bars transform themselves into a more modern atmosphere, Club Horizon keeps its natural luxury and classic bar ambience.

Asked what differentiates Club Horizon from other bars, the staff said its “friendliness.”

“For our visitors’ comfort, the members of our staff do not change often so that they can recognize and greet the visitors on their second visit, making them feel special,” said Kwon Hye-kyung, manager of the bar.

The facility can hold up to 100 guests and often hosts parties. Though staff members all know how to make cocktails, visitors to this bar favor whiskeys. The bar also offers diverse finger food and snacks such as quesadillas, fresh salads, fish, steak, seafood and more. Prices for drinks range from 17,000 won-300,000 won, including tax and service charge.

Club Horizon opens from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and until midnight on weekends. There are live band performances from 8:30 p.m. and music requests are accepted.
