The Italian Cultural Institute has brought 21 classic and award-winning films that screened at the Venice Biennale to Seoul Art Center in “Venice in Seoul” through Jan. 16.

The Italian Cultural Center in Korea, with the Korean Association of Cinematheques and the Venice Biennale Foundation, organized the event which celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Venice Film Festival.

Hidden masterpieces from all over the world that have been introduced at the Venice Film Festival over the last 80 years will be screened.

Newly restored classics and the latest films from Italy are also in the line up. Golden Lion winner “Pieta” screened Dec. 15 in a special screening that included a talk after the film by the film’s director Kim Ki-duk.

The festival also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Korean Association of Cinematheque and the 80th anniversary of Venice Biennale.

The films that will screen on Christmas Day are: “A Special Day” at 2 p.m., “The Son Did It” at 4:10 p.m., and “Free At Last” at 6:30 p.m. Italian director Roberto Rossellini’s neorealist classic “Stromboli” screens on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.

Starring Ingrid Bergman, the 1950 film is best remembered by cinema enthusiasts for the affair between Bergman and Rossellini that caused such scandal in the United States that a U.S. legislator denounced the film on the floor of the Senate.
